Companies That Give Free Estimates For Leaky Faucet And Toilets

What to do with Toilet and Faucet Leaks

When a toilet or a faucet continues to leak water, utility bills sky rocket. Gallons upon gallons of water are wasted when faucets and toilets emit water, not to mention this could also cause water damage.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency shared in its website statistics on how much water is wasted when there are leaks in a home. “The average household’s leaks can account for more than 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year, or the amount of water needed to wash 270 loads of laundry. Household leaks can waste more than 1 trillion gallons annually nationwide. That’s equal to the annual household water use of more than 11 million homes.

Ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day.”

But what can a homeowner do when there are leaks in a home? WikiHow shared what can be done with a leaky faucet. “Determine what type of faucet you have. A compression faucet has two screw handles, one for hot and one for cold, and is the easiest to recognize by sight. The other three types of faucet all have one central, swiveling arm that you can swing from hot to cold as desired.[1] You may have to take your faucet apart before you know which is which, because the internal mechanisms at the base of their arms are all different.” Read the continuation here.

As for a leaky toilet, Family Handyman came up with some troubleshooting suggestions. “Do you notice a small pool of water where your toilet meets the floor? Does the floor around the toilet feel spongy? Is the finished flooring coming up? If so, you probably have a bad seal between the toilet horn (where the waste exits) and the drain line. Don’t procrastinate any longer. Small leaks trapped beneath the toilet will eventually rot floor surfaces, and even the underlying framing. Wait too long and repair costs rise, especially when you figure in replacing finished flooring and sometimes underlayments, subfloors or even the framing.”
